How to manage your workload if you have too much on
Do you find you get to the end of the day and you don't know what you've actually achieved?
You know you've been busy but you don't feel like you've moved forward in anything.
Here's what you can try:
1. First thing in the morning take 5 minutes to write down the tasks you need to do. The list might be long!
2. Block each task out in your diary around your meetings (and don't forget to add breaks!). It can be helpful to do this in a project management tool like ClickUp*
3. If you can't fit all the tasks in for today, then you need to prioritise! Plan in the most important and urgent and roll over anything you can fit until tomorrow. It’s OK to not complete all your work today! (don't just extend your hours into the evening!)
4. The next day, do the same thing again. List your tasks, prioritise, plan them in and anything you can't fit in rollover.
You will find that the least important things will keep rolling over, and if they never become a priority then maybe you don't need to do them at all.
Or if you do, perhaps you can delegate to an existing team member or outsource them to a VA or specialist.
If you are finding that you are always behind and it is impacting on your client work, then you need to seriously rethink the work you have on your plate and what you can give to someone else. Working super long hours is OK short term, and we all need to do this at some point, but if it is for a sustained period or you can’t see that it will even get better then you must outsource some work.
